It's been an adjustment so far, but it's been fun! I've enjoyed getting to know new people, navigate a new city, and seeing some familiar faces of old friends, too. I miss home, but I'm not homesick..yet.
I'm used to having something to do or someone to see every day, and here my life has significantly slowed down. I'm not running to this place to meet someone for coffee or going out to dinner with someone every night and it's weird to me. There's also not a million people in and out of the house on a daily basis and that's even more abnormal. I don't know what it's like to live in a house where people actually knock, and they don't just come and go as they please. But, I can't lie, I'm kind of enjoying even the smallest bit of stillness.
Landmark Construction is proving to be a great place to work. We keep snacks and drinks in the kitchen at all times. Fruit, chips, granola bars, candy, coffee, and all the diet coke I could ever want. The Lord provides, amen?! And, I am the one who gets to shop for it all so I get to buy whatever I want. These people trust me entirely too much! ha! Then, on Tuesdays, I have to order in lunch for the Management Team meeting, and since I'm the one ordering it, I'm allowed to order something for myself, too. Free lunch? I'm all about it! These are some of the most laid back people I've ever worked with and I am loving it.
I'm still unsure of exactly what I'm supposed to be doing every day, but I'm finding some things to do to occupy my time. So far, I've learned how to reserve a rental car, divide up the credit card statement into different entities and give the statements to each accountant to get the bill paid on time, make office supply orders, office snack orders, go to the grocery store, make FedEx shipment labels, order aerial prints of projects in progress, answer the phones, reserve the conference rooms, update the bidders list, and lots of other small tasks throughout the week. Lots of things I'm in charge of are monthly tasks, or as needed, and not something I do every single day, so some days are busier than others. It's going to be a learning process, but I'm catching on pretty quickly.
Last weekend I went home to go to the Alan Jackson concert in Augusta with la familia. The original 5 Morris' plus the brother in law went and we had such a fun time! We didn't know before hand, but our "seats" were actually just standing room on the floor in front of the stage. We were directly in front of Alan Jackson the entire time and it was fantastic! I wouldn't have wanted to share that night with anyone else! It was perfect!
On Saturday, I spent the day with Alabama, Pate and Alicia at the mall. Pate played with trains while Alabama and I read books, we had lunch and cookies from the food court, then Tay Tay gave us all money to throw in the fountain before going home. Once we got home, we rode around on the golf cart for the rest of the day and ended the night with everyone at VA's for low country boil. A perfect ending to a pretty perfect day!
I came back to Athens Sunday afternoon and settled back in here. I sure am looking forward to week two in this beautiful city!
Happy Tuesday!
