I'm not really a fan of Halloween. People dressed in costumes kind of freak me out. I can never tell who the person actually is, if it's a good costume anyway, and that's weird. But, if you like this holiday in all it's candy-filled glory, then Happy Halloween!!
When I was growing up, we never really did the trick-or-treat thing. I can remember maybe 2 times I went, and once we bought candy and sat on the front porch. That part might have something to do with the fact we live "out in the country" and no one comes that far, but whatever.
We did, however, always do the "Fall Festival" thing, or as our church called it, a "Hallelujah Party."
We dressed up, and had lots of candy and food and we had bonfires to roast marshmallows, too!
I didn't usually dress up, but I do remember one year I was a witch. But not a regular witch, no that's too easy. I threw together some stuff from Walmart and called myself a "witch."
I had green and black striped leggings, a green shirt, and green hair. That was it. Lucky for you, and me, I can't find documentation of that. I know there were pictures, but it's best I not dig too deep!
My Mama always loved the food part of Halloween. She bought this "Gross Grub" cookbook many years ago, and she still uses the thing today! The stuff in that book is outrageous. Just the names of the recipes make you cringe. There's food like boogers on a stick, cat liter casserole, toasted tongue, snout and beans, and many more! I think she just gets a kick out grossing people out! Her office is having a party today so she of course broke out her trusty cookbook! The toasted tongue is really just meringue cookies with pink food coloring and put on a stick. Mama didn't have sticks for all the ones she made, so I took a couple of those with me to work! The sticks give it much more effect, but here's a picture!
This year, we had a costume party last weekend and I was an injured UGA player. My friend, Richard, jokingly gave me that idea on Twitter, but the more I thought about it, the more perfect I thought it would be! I bought a jersey, wore gray leggings (silver britches), a UGA hat, used crutches, put on eye black, gave myself a black eye with makeup, and wore a knee brace.
I thought it was genius! I won most creative costume, too! (thanks, richard!)
Sadly, hardly anyone "got" it! I had to keep explaining all night, and some people even thought I was actually hurt. There's only one picture of that, and the sis has it on her camera, so I can't share that one either. Sorry!
Did you dress up for Halloween? What was your favorite costume?
Happy Thursday!
XoXo,
AK
